A heartbreaking photo of a dog who stood guard over his friend who passed away after being hit by a car in Dallas, Texas is circulating online.

The dog, a Great Pyrenees, was spotted by Samuel Flores. The dog was standing guard and watching over another dog who appeared to have died after being hit by a car. There was blood on the road, that indicated that the dog may have dragged her friend to the roadside. Samuel took the photo of the dog and it is certainly heart-wrenching.

Samuel then posted the photo on Julie Fennell’s Facebook page–an animal advocate. She then shared it to an animal advocacy group, and animal advocate Jessy Faiferlick immediately went to the area to rescue the dog. The dog was very gentle and friendly. He first barked at Jessy when she approached. But upon realizing that she was there to help, he calmed down and gave her a paw.
